1877: Russia declares battle against the Ottoman Empire.

1898: Spain declares war against America.

1920: Poland's army invades Ukraine.

1926: Berlin Treaty signed.

1954: British government orders stern action against the rebels in Kenya. The rebels in Kenya had carried out a guerrilla campaign against the whites living in the country, which they named Mau Mau.

1954: Australia and Soviet Union end diplomatic relations.

1960: 500 people died in the terrible earthquake in South Persia.

1962: MIT sends satellite TV signal for the first time.

1967: Astronaut Vladimir Komarov of the Soviet Union was the first person to die during a space mission. Shortly after entering Earth's atmosphere, the parachute strings of his spacecraft got tangled and he hit the earth from an altitude of several miles.
